Give your baby chicks a safe, clean, and stress-free place to grow with the Hen Pen Starter Pop-Up Brooder. Designed for backyard chicken keepers, this lightweight indoor brooder pops open in seconds, folds flat for storage, and keeps bedding, spills, and curious pets contained.
Built from premium materials, not the thin nylon used in many pet playpens. The Hen Pen Starter is made with durable Oxford canvas, reinforced spring-steel framing, and heavy-duty mesh that stands up to hatch after hatch. It's the perfect solution for raising a small flock indoors without the mess.
Why You'll Love It
-
Premium construction. Made with thick Oxford canvas, reinforced framing, and heavy-duty mesh for lasting durability.
-
Sized for small flocks. Comfortably holds up to 8 chicks, 4 ducklings, or 30 guinea keets through approximately 6 weeks of age.
-
Keeps the mess contained. The waterproof built-in floor helps prevent spills from leaking, while the enclosed design keeps bedding where it belongs.
-
Easy to clean. Simply wipe down the smooth interior and allow it to dry before storing.
-
Fast setup and storage. Pops open in seconds and folds flat when not in use.
-
Safer octagon design. Eight sides eliminate corners where frightened chicks can pile up and become trapped.
-
Secure enclosure. Thick mesh panels help keep chicks safely inside while discouraging curious cats, toddlers, and other household interruptions. (Children and pets should always be supervised around chicks.)
-
Convenient top access. A large zippered opening makes feeding, watering, and daily care simple.
-
Heater compatible. Designed for use with chick heating plates and other safer brooder heaters that use cord access. Do not use with a heat lamp.
Built to Last
Unlike many lightweight pet pens, the Hen Pen Starter Pop-Up Brooder is built specifically for raising poultry. The thick canvas resists wear, reinforced sleeves protect the frame from tearing through the fabric, and the heavy-duty mesh features smaller openings to help keep bedding in and little beaks safely contained.
Because it's reusable, you can enjoy hatch after hatch without replacing your brooder every season.
More Than a Chick Brooder
The Hen Pen Starter is a versatile addition to your flock-keeping supplies. Use it as:
- An indoor brooder for baby chicks, ducklings, or guinea keets
- A safe space for a broody hen raising her chicks
- A temporary hospital pen for an injured bird
- A short-term quarantine area for new flock members
Dimensions
-
Open: 36" diameter × 20" tall
-
Folded: 9" × 8" × 13.5"
-
Floor Space: 7.4 square feet
Capacity
Recommended for:
For best results, use until approximately 6 weeks of age. If your birds will transition outdoors around 3–4 weeks, the brooder can comfortably accommodate roughly twice as many chicks during that shorter growing period.
Cleaning & Storage
Wipe the interior with a damp cloth or paper towel after use and allow it to dry completely before folding it flat for storage. Proper drying helps prevent mildew and keeps your brooder ready for the next hatch.
Important Safety Information
- For indoor use only.
-
Do not use with a heat lamp. Instead, pair your brooder with a chick heating plate or other low-temperature brooder heater designed for poultry.
- The Hen Pen Starter Pop-Up Brooder is not predator-proof and should not be used as an outdoor enclosure without direct supervision.
